A phobia is rooted typically in trauma and/or anxiety and they can form in early childhood or as an adult. Nyctophobia, or the fear of the dark, generally begins with early childhood with the very active imaginations of a child and the unknown of the space around them when it’s too dark to see. Suddenly everything is watching you, coming for you, they will not stop, they’re already there.

Nyctophobia was born of the phobia project in Advanced Typography which required me choose a phobia and depict it in a way that causes the viewer to have a reaction similar to what those who actually have the phobia may experience.
